Learn what happens when a VPN disconnects, how to reduce fallback traffic, and how to test Falemon auto-reconnect and available protection settings.

A VPN can disconnect because Wi-Fi changes, a device sleeps, the ISP fluctuates, a firewall interferes, the system updates, or a node is maintained. Do not assume a tunnel will never drop. Learn how the client reports state, whether sensitive apps keep using the internet, and how to recover safely. Names and availability of protection settings vary by platform and version.

STEP 01

Recognize the two possible outcomes of a drop

Some systems return traffic to the ordinary network, so pages keep loading even though the public IP and route changed. Other configurations block access until the secure connection returns. Blocking protects continuity but can look like a total outage.

Check both Falemon and the operating-system network indicator. Define a rule for important work: when state is uncertain, pause uploads, remote administration, synchronization, and sensitive sign-ins. A page continuing to load is not proof that the VPN remains active.

STEP 02

Review the protection controls available in your version

Look for settings such as auto-reconnect, launch at startup, disconnect protection, or network lock. Platforms and releases do not expose identical controls. If a setting is absent, do not copy registry, firewall, or command-line instructions written for another product.

Read whether the option blocks the whole device or only selected applications. If you need printers, casting, or corporate LAN resources, test local access and document how to restore it before relying on the setting.

STEP 03

Test recovery without exposing sensitive traffic

Do not test during a payment, upload, or administrative session. Close sensitive apps, open a harmless test page, and note the connected public IP. Briefly disable Wi-Fi or switch to a phone hotspot, then observe whether the internet works before Falemon reconnects.

After recovery, refresh the test and verify the client state and public route. Test sleep/wake, Wi-Fi-to-hotspot switching, and a manual node change separately. Change one condition at a time and keep the results.

STEP 04

Troubleshoot recurring drops by layer

Check whether the base connection also drops with Falemon off. Then try a nearby node, restart the router and client, and exit other VPNs, proxies, and network filters. On mobile devices, inspect battery optimization, background activity, and VPN permission.

For support, record time, node, network type, sleep state, and system and client versions. Never send a password, verification code, or complete payment details. Redact email addresses, IPs, and order information from screenshots.

Frequently asked questions

If a web page still loads, does that prove the VPN is connected?

No. The system may have fallen back to the ordinary route. Check client status and compare the public route with the connected result.

Why is there no internet after disconnect protection is enabled?

The protection may be intentionally blocking fallback traffic. Restore Falemon first; if it persists, follow the current-version instructions and troubleshoot the base network.

Will moving from Wi-Fi to cellular cause a disconnect?

Changing network interfaces can trigger a short reconnection. Test your current platform in advance and pause sensitive work until the connected state returns.
